West Brom join Benteke race
West Brom have become the latest side to express an interest in signing Liverpool striker Christian Benteke. The big Belgian struggled to secure a regular spot in Jurgen Klopp's side after his £32.5 million switch from Aston Villa last summer and he has been linked with various clubs this summer.
With the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi ahead of Benteke in the pecking order, it appears as though Jurgen Klopp is willing to cash in on the striker. The 25-year-old was able to manage double figures in his debut campaign at Anfield as he notched 10 goals in all competitions but he has never quite looked like establishing himself as the first choice. However despite the offers they have received, it is believed that Liverpool are hoping to recoup the majority of the fee they paid Aston Villa just a year ago.
West Ham were strongly linked with a move for Benteke early on in the summer but it appears as though their interest has cooled having secured the signings of Andre Ayew and Jonathan Calleri. Crystal Palace has also been desperately seeking to add a striker to their ranks this summer and have been one of the sides most commonly linked with a move for the striker. They remain the favourites to secure Benteke's signature and are found at just 1/6 with Skybet to be his destination before the end of the transfer window.
However it now looks as though West Brom have emerged as serious contenders with the Baggies having only signed Matt Philips from QPR this summer. With Saido Berahino's future still up in the air, Tony Pulis may well look to replace the young striker with Benteke. Interestingly Berahino has in fact been strongly linked with a move to Palace and his future could have a significant bearing on where Benteke ends up. The Baggies are found at 5/1 with Skybet to be Benteke's club come the end of the transfer window so there could well be some value in that particular bet.
There is also the chance that Benteke will yet remain at Liverpool. Whilst he does not appear to be Klopp's first choice, at the same time he has not been deemed surplus to requirements and he could yet decide to stay at Anfield and fight for his place. Liverpool's asking price of £32.5 million could put any potential suitors off any deal so it is by no means out of the question that Benteke will remain on Merseyside. The bookies however are of a slightly different thought process, pricing him to remain at Anfield beyond the summer transfer window at a lengthy 12/1.
