West Ham expected to grab Quagliarella

West Ham have emerged as the clear favourites to sign Italy international Fabio Quagliarella from Juventus although Hammers chairman David Gold has said they must first reduce the wage bill.

The 30-year-old is now a tiny price of 4/11 with Sky Bet to move from Turin to East London so the bookies clearly feel that there will be movement out of Upton Park or Sam Allardyce will manage to persuade his chairmen into adding to their strike force.

With an already relatively small squad though it is not clear who would make way at West Ham if they want to free up some space on the wage bill. The likes of James Collison and Matthew Taylor did not feature in the match day squad on the opening day of the season and it could be this kind of player who would be sacrificed.

Allardyce has made it clear that he sees his side as a little short up front with his options restricted to Andy Carroll, Ricardo Vaz Te and Modibo Maiga. It is clear who the bookmakers see as their main man with Carroll odds-on at a best price of 4/5 with Bet Victor to be the top scorer at Upton Park this season.
