Where will Payet head next?

West Ham star Dimitri Payet has rocked the club this week with the news emerging that he wants to quit the club. Hammers boss Slaven Bilic announced in his press conference that Payet is actively looking to move on and is refusing to play for the club. The situation is somewhat muddled by Slaven Bilic's insistence that the player will not be sold.

The 29-year-old's former club Marseille have reportedly had a bid of £19 million rejected and Payet is keen to return to the club on France's South Coast. US businessman Frank McCourt took over the club at the back end of last year and has set his sights on investing in to the playing squad and restoring Marseille to their former glories. Bringing Payet back to the club would represent a significant coup for Marseille but it appears as though they are a someway apart in the valuation of the player with West Ham. Bilic has said the player will not be selected until his attitude improves so it's certainly going to be interesting to see how the situation is resolved.

The bookmakers believe that Marseille are in the driving seat for the want-away attacker and Ladbrokes have them at a price of 5/2 to complete a deal that would see Payet return to the Stade Veledrome. During his second year with the club he made 17 assists in his 36 league games and was named in the Ligue 1 team of the season, so the French club would know exactly the calibre of player they would be getting.

After his sensational season for West Ham last year, Payet was shortlisted for the PFA Player of the Year award had been linked away with moves to big clubs over the summer. There was also speculation that a move to China could have been on the cards but ultimately he opted to remain with the Hammers, having only signed a renewed contract worth £125,000 per week. However it seems his thoughts on his future have changed drastically since and with West Ham enjoying a far less successful season this time around, he has made clear of his intentions to leave.

Aside from Marseille, there is also the chance that Payet could make a switch elsewhere with a number of Premier League clubs also being touted as possible destinations. Manchester United are currently the best priced of those and Jose Mourinho's men are second favourites at 5/1 with Ladbrokes to capture his signature. PSG are 7/1 as another option to bring Payet back to France whilst a move to any Chinese Super League club is currently priced at 8/1.
