Who is set for Old Trafford exit?
Manchester United have not quite hit the expected heights under Jose Mourinho so far. The Portuguese boss has reportedly stated he will need a couple more transfer windows to get his squad as he wants it. This had led to speculation that Mourinho could be set to cull his squad come the January transfer window with Paddy Power offering odds on those players that may leave.
Bastian Schweinsteiger tops the list with the German midfielder only recently even returning to the first team fold. In the summer, Mourinho made it clear that the former Bayern Munich star had no future at Old Trafford and as well as being forced to train with the reserves he was even written off as an asset on the club's accounts. However due to a couple of injuries and suspensions, the 32-year-old has come back in to the squad and made his return to action as a substitute against West Ham in the EFL Cup. It seems unlikely however that he has a long-term future at United and amid reports of a move to the MLS, he is just 4/6 to leave before the end of January.
Another player who could be on his way out is Matteo Darmian. The Italian has struggled to nail down a regular spot in the United first team with Antonio Valencia firmly established as the first choice right back. Darmian has encountered a number of injury problems during his spell in England and has never really been able to enjoy a clear run of games. He remains highly rated in his native Italy however with a number of Serie A clubs reportedly interested in his signature. The 26-year-old is also odds-on to leave Old Trafford and can be found at odds of 8/11 to depart.
The final player who is odds-on to leave is young goalkeeper Sam Johnstone. The 23-year-old is firmly behind David de Gea and Sergio Romero in the pecking order and is yet to even make a senior appearance for the club. For the good of his own career, he surely needs to move on with Championship clubs interested. He is 5/6 to leave before February 1st and there is little reason to suggest he will do otherwise.
Surprisingly Wayne Rooney features next on the list at 7/2 to leave the club. The United captain has found himself out of the starting line-up on numerous occasions under Mourinho but it's near impossible to envisage Mourinho letting him go mid season. Ashley Young and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are both 7/1 whilst Marouane Fellaini is 9/1. Daley Blind is at 14 whilst Chris Smalling and Anthony Martial are both out at 15/1.
