Zenit favourites to sign departing Skrtel
Zenit St Petersburg are the 2/1 favourites to sign Martin Skrtel this summer with the Slovakian reportedly on his way out of Anfield following another poor performance against Southampton at the weekend.
Skrtel has slipped down the pecking order at Liverpool in recent months, but was recalled to the starting line-up on Sunday when Jamie Carragher failed to recover sufficiently from a shin injury to make the trip to the south coast.
Although Brendan Rodgers refused to single out Skrtel and/or defensive partner Daniel Agger for the goals, it is looking increasingly likely that one, if not both, will leave the club this summer.
“We defend from the front,” he said. “It’s the team. We never defended well as a team so it is unfair to criticise them two (Skrtel and Agger).
“They will be disappointed, of course, as all defenders are when you concede goals. We’ve been on a run of late where we either don’t concede or we do and concede two or three. Our defensive line always starts from the front of the pitch.”
Manchester City are considered the second favourites in the betting, followed by Arsenal. But at odds of 16/1 and 20/1 respectively with BetVictor it’s thought unlikely that either will make a move for the 28-year-old in the next transfer window.
