Another win for white hot Spurs

Spurs had 23 shots on goal in their last outing

Tottenham Hotspur host PAOK Salonika at White Hart Lane knowing that a win would almost certainly ensure them a safe passage through to the knockout stages of the Europa League. Defeat, on the other hand would probably spell the end of their European season as these two sides battle it out with Rubin Kazan for the two top spots in Group A.

Harry Redknapp is expected to continue adopting a rotation policy for the Europa League, meaning the likes of Sandro, Andros Townsend, Harry Kane and Jake Livermore may get a chance to impress. Roman Pavlyuchenko may also have been given the nod to start up front but his knee injury looks likely to push Jermain Defoe into the team for his second start in four days. Spurs had 23 shots on goal in their last outing against West Bromwich Albion and 14 of them hit the target. Defoe looks good value at 11/2 with Victor Chandler to break the deadlock against a side that trails the Greek league-leaders Panathinaikos by 8 points despite having played two games more. He is also 13/10 with Paddy Power to score at any time and, with Euro 2012 still in his sights, he will want to take every opportunity that comes his way.

Although PAOK are the only unbeaten team in Group A, they have two of their most difficult games to come. Neither side managed to break the deadlock in Greece when the two sides met in September. However, in the nine league games since that draw, Spurs have won 25 points from a possible 27 while PAOK have won just 12 in the same number of games.

Spurs are a best-priced 4/9 with Stan James to win the match but they are a tempting 23/20 with the same bookmaker to be leading at half-time and full-time. Spurs have been losing at half-time in just one of their 19 games this season and have only failed to score a first-half goal in one of the last nine. Anything except a win would make qualification extremely difficult and, although Spurs should have a strong looking bench, Harry Redknapp will be keen for the home side to get the job done as early as possible.

Recommended Bets:

Back Tottenham/Tottenham at 23/20 with Stan James

Back Defoe to score at any time at 13/10 with Paddy Power
