Arsenal backed to overturn Milan

The Gunners have come from behind twice in recent weeks

Bookmaker Ladbrokes have reported some strong betting interest in Arsenal to overturn a four-goal deficit in their Champions League last-16 tie with AC Milan this Tuesday evening, shortening their odds of on qualifying for the quarter-finals from 25/1 to 18/1.

The Gunners have come from behind twice in recent weeks as they beat rivals Tottenham despite going 2-0 down and then more recently came back from one goal down to beat Liverpool.

“Punters believe in Arsenal. On the back of their recent form they have been well backed for the upset with RVP fancied to be amongst the goals again,” said Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes.

Robin van Persie took his tally for the season to 31 goals with strikes either side of half time at Anfield on Saturday. He is the 7/2 favourite to break the deadlock at the emirates on Tuesday evening, it is 16/1 for the Dutchman to score a hat-trick and 1,000/1 that he scores all five in a 5-0 Gunners victory.

Arsenal are a 21/20 chance to win Tuesday evening’s game, but the aforementioned 18/1 on them qualifying for the next round highlights the enormity of the task that lies in wait. It is 100/1 that they reciprocate the 4-0 scoreline, while Arsene Wenger’s men are now a 200/1 chance to win the Champions League this season.
