Arsenal v Stoke Betting Odds

While nobody is pretending that Stoke play the style of football that Arsenal do so well, Wenger may want to look a little closer to home if he has an issue with the Potters' fair play philosophy.

Arsenal host Stoke this Wednesday evening as attentions revert to the Premier League following an up and down seven days in knockout competitions.

Arsene Wenger is likely to revert to his strongest XI after making ten changes for the visit to Leyton Orient on Sunday. However, Robin van Persie is sidelined and Johan Djourou is a slight doubt with a back problem, but should play, while Abou Diaby serves the final game of a three-match suspension.

Stoke are also likely to welcome back a number of first team regulars with Asmir Begovic taking up position between the sticks. Matthew Etherington will have a late fitness test after being forced off with a back problem in the win against Brighton.

Arsenal still Gunning on four fronts

Despite the wholesale changes the Gunners came back down to earth with a bump at Brisbane Road on Sunday evening. Although they dominated the game throughout they failed to kill it off and were punished for not doing so. Now they have an unnecessary extra fixture to negotiate in what is already a congested schedule.

Nevertheless, what's done is done and Wenger will know that tonight's game offers an ideal opportunity to close the gap at the top and put pressure on United.

Arsenal have won each of the last three Premier League meetings between the two teams and their last eight at home to Stoke. The Gunners are also unbeaten in their last ten fixtures in all competitions.

With their focus firmly on closing the gap at the top Arsenal should be more clinical in converting the chances that they will inevitably create this Wednesday. The bookmakers are quoting betting odds of 3/10 for a home win with the draw at 4/1 and a win for The Potters at 10/1.

People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones

It is fair to say that there is more than a little bad blood between Wenger and Tony Pulis. The Frenchman accused Stoke of employing 'rugby-style' tactics in the aftermath of a tackle from Ryan Shawcross that left Aaron Ramsey with a broken leg the last time the clubs met.

While nobody is pretending that Stoke play the style of football that Arsenal do so well, Wenger may want to look a little closer to home if he has an issue with the Potters' fair play philosophy. Arsenal have picked up six red cards in the Premier League this season, the joint-most of any club in the division.

Peter Walton has the unenviable task of controlling this game and could be in for a busy night. Not shy of brandishing a card himself he has issued eight red cards and 70 yellows in just 22 Premier League games this season.

There may be value in siding with the far-from-angelic Arsenal in the Most Bookings market where the home side are 2/1. But Over 3.5 cards to be shown at betting odds of 11/10 looks to be the best betting option of the evening.
