Arsenal v Liverpool Betting Preview

The Gunners have lacked their usual swagger so far this season

They say that in sport you should beware of the wounded animal, but the Gunners aren’t so much wounded as struggling to even draw breath. Can Liverpool rub salt into Arsenal’s cavernous wounds? Or will Wenger’s men rally around their under-pressure manager?

Arsenal are without suspended duo Gervinho and Alex Song following last weekend’s game at Newcastle. Jack Wilshere, Johan Djourou and Kieran Gibbs are all highly doubtful with injuries while Samir Nasri is unlikely to feature due to his pending move to Manchester City, although he is in the squad.

Conversely, Liverpool have no fresh injury problems with Steven Gerrard and Glen Johnson being Kenny Dalglish’s only concerns.

Dalglish will be hoping that his side can generate a performance akin to that which they produced in the first 45 minutes of last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland. If they can then Arsenal could be in trouble.

The Gunners have lacked their usual swagger so far this season. With visits to Udinese and Manchester United coming up in the next week a defeat here could signal the beginning of the end of Arsenal’s season, before it has barely begun.

At betting odds of 2/1 with bookmaker Victor Chandler, Liverpool look a standout bet in the Match Odds market.

Goalscorer bets should centre around Andrey Arshavin and Luis Suarez. The Russian has an incredible record of scoring five goals from just six shots on target against The Reds, making Bet365’s 3/1 on him scoring at anytime in the match a worthwhile back.

Suarez is one of, if not the, world’s in-form strikers. He picked up where he left off at the Copa America with the opener against Sunderland last weekend, and could have had more. He’s not one to irk away from the big games, as he showed in the Copa America final, and at odds of 2/1 with Coral he’s another standout bet in the To Score Anytime market.

If Arsenal do not turn in a positive performance this weekend then Wenger’s already-diminishing popularity will take another huge blow. It may have already sunk to an irrecoverable low.
