Aston Villa v Fulham Betting Odds

Only Arsenal have conceded fewer goals than Fulham away from home this season with The Cottagers only scoring nine goals in the process.

Gerard Houllier's Aston Villa entertain Fulham on Saturday with both sides battling to create some distance between themselves and the relegation zone.

The Cottagers sit just one point ahead of Villa in the league and go in to this game off the back of a decent 1-0 victory at home to Newcastle United. The Villans on the other hand were on the receiving end of a strong Manchester United performance in midweek losing 3-1 at Old Trafford.

Villa will be without Nathan Baker, whilst Fabien Delph and Luke Young are rated as doubtful. Fulham have no fresh injury worries, with Bobby Zamora and Philippe Senderos remaining on the long-term absence list.

Aston Villa have relied on stronger home form this season to keep them out of the relegation zone. Five of their seven wins have been at Villa Park and they will be encouraged by their recent victory over Manchester City. Fulham's away record, as it has been for numerous seasons now, is terrible. They have only recorded one victory on the road all season, a 2-0 win at Stoke in December. Despite this they have managed to grab a couple of draws recently and half of their games away from home this season have finished as a draw.

Villa to Draw a Blank?

Back in November when these two sides met, it took a Brede Hangeland equaliser five minutes into stoppage time for Fulham to salvage a point at The Cottage. The goal cancelling out Mark Albrighton's first half opener.

Both sides have bolstered their attacking options in the January transfer window with Aston Villa bringing in £24m man Darren Bent from Sunderland. Fulham's dealings were rather more modest with Gael Kakuta coming in on loan from Chelsea and cultured front man Eidur Gudjohnsen joining on loan from Stoke City.

There seems to have been an upturn in morale at Villa Park in the new year and Villa are the favourites for this one with betting odds of 10/11 being offered for the home win. The bookmakers are not confident that Fulham will improve upon their dire away record pricing them at 3/1 to pick up all three points. A draw seems like a feasible option given Fulham's good result against Newcastle and odds of 12/5 look very attractive for The Cottagers to register their seventh draw of the season.

Battle of the Goal Scorers

Darren Bent is the first name that comes to mind when selecting the first goal scorer. The former Sunderland and Spurs man has scored two goals in four games and is 4/1 to open the scoring. Fulham frontman Clint Dempsey is a generous 8/1 to open the scoring having already bagged eight goals this season.

Only Arsenal have conceded fewer goals than Fulham away from home this season with The Cottagers only scoring nine goals in the process. Villa's defensive record at home has been decent meaning that this fixture may find goals hard to come by. Odds of 4/6 on their being under 2.5 goals would be a sound investment.

With both sides looking to build on improved performances in 2011, this game could make or break the season for both clubs.
