AVB new favourite for LFC

The club have vowed not to rush into the appointment of a new manager

Andre Villas-Boas is the new betting favourite to take over from Kenny Dalglish as manager of Liverpool Football Club as punters continue to back the former Chelsea boss.

The recently-sacked Portuguese was introduced to Betfair’s next Liverpool manager market at odds of around 14/1 when news emerged that Dalglish had left the club, but has since been backed in to the 2/1 mark on the exchanges, while Stan James go as short as 6/4.

The club have vowed not to rush into the appointment of a new manager with Managing Director Ian Ayre stating: “The board will create a criteria of what that manager should look like and we'll match that with the best possible candidates and make a decision on that basis.

“What we don't want is to choose quickly or choose because there's a time pressure. It'll be about finding the right person who can do the best job for Liverpool Football Club.”

Rafael Benitez had been the early favourite with bookmakers but odds on the Spaniard returning to Anfield have slid from a low of 5/2 to the 10/1 that is now available with Bet365. Roberto Martinez remains second favourite in the betting at odds of 5/1 with Stan James, while Paul Lambert, who was also an early front-runner, is now out to odds of 25/1.

Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers is reported to be on a shortlist of potential candidates and he can be backed at 7/1 to takeover for next season, while former England boss Fabio Capello is a 12/1 shot.
