Baggies to contain travel sick Magpies

The Baggies hammered Sunderland before beating Chelsea

Defender Jonas Olsson is available for selection after serving a suspension during the 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic last week. Peter Odemwingie may also return following a hamstring injury but long-term absentees Steven Reid and Zotan Gera remain unavailable for the hosts.

Cheick Tiote should return to Newcastle’s starting line-up after injury but Ryan Taylor, Steven Taylor, Peter Lovenkrands and Leon Best are still missing for the visitors.

The Baggies hammered Sunderland before beating Chelsea in the West Midlands and they kept two clean sheets along the way. Roy Hodgson’s side sits a comfortable 14 points above the relegation zone but only Wigan Athletic have scored fewer at home in the league this season. However, the Albion forwards will fancy their chances of breaking down a Magpies’ defence that has conceded an alarming 17 goals in the process of losing five of their last six games away from home.

Only six sides have shipped more goals on their travels this season. If Odemwingie is fit enough to make the starting XI, Stan James’ odds of 9/4 look very generous for the Nigerian to score at any time during the game. Newcastle’s Senegalese forward pair of Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse has been a constant threat in recent months and they too will be confident of adding to their collective tally. Sky Bet offer tempting odds of 8/11 for both teams to score during the game.

A draw looks appealing at odds of 12/5 but, if either side is going to win the match, the home side seems more likely on current form and West Brom can be backed at 8/11 in Coral’s Draw No Bet market.
