Benitez favourite as Dalglish departs

William Hill make the former Reds supremo their 2/1 favourite

Rafael Benitez is a shock favourite to return to Anfield as manager of Liverpool after it was announced that Kenny Dalglish would leave the club on Wednesday afternoon.

William Hill make the former Reds supremo their 2/1 favourite to replace Dalglish at Anfield, with current Wigan boss Roberto Martinez second favourite at odds of 5/2 and Frank Rijkaard at 9/2 the only other candidate at single-figure odds.

There had been musings in the press prior to his departure that Dalglish may pay the price for a dismal league campaign, and they proved to be accurate when the Scot’s 18-month tenure at Liverpool came to an end after face-to-face talks with owners JW Henry and Tom Werner in the US earlier this week.

Other names quoted in the next Liverpool manager betting include Paul Lambert at odds of 10/1, former Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas at odds of 14/1, current Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers who is an 11/1 chance.
