Birmingham Appoint Hughton

The Blues are priced at odds of 9/1 to win the Championship

Birmingham City have appointed Chris Hughton as their new manager following the departure of Alex McLeish earlier this month.

The 52-year-old returns to management following his acrimonious sacking from Newcastle United midway through last season.

“Following productive talks with the former Newcastle United boss, acting chairman Peter Pannu felt that Hughton was the perfect candidate to take charge at St. Andrew's and he is now looking forward to sharing the new man's ambition,” said a statement on the Birmingham City website

Hughton guided Newcastle back to the Premier League at the first time of asking two years ago and will be assigned the same task at St Andrew’s.

The Blues are priced at odds of 9/1 to win the Championship this season and are 11/4 to be promoted.

Hughton’s first league game in charge will be away to Derby County and it is 7/5 that they get the campaign off to a winning start.
