Birmingham v Man City Betting Odds

Given Manchester City's recent stutter in matches away to Aston Villa and Notts County, betting odds on a draw of 12/5 looks good value for the punter.

Birmingham City's season has been flipped on its head this week after two cracking cup victories.

The Blues 3-1 win over West Ham after extra time has seen them progress to the League Cup final where they will face Arsene Wenger's Arsenal. McLeish's men then topped off a fine week with a 3-2 victory over Midlands rivals Coventry City in the FA Cup. Their opponents tonight, Manchester City, had a less than impressive 1-1 draw with League One Notts County at Meadow Lane. One plus point was £27m man Edin Dzeko breaking his duck for The Citizens.

Birmingham have so far struggled to re-capture the form of last season that saw them finish in the top half. This season they are languishing just one point clear of the relegation zone and finding goals hard to come by. Manchester City currently sit in third place in the Premier League and are six points behind their title rivals Manchester United who also have a game in hand. If they are to mount a serious title challenge then Wednesday is a must win for them.

Birmingham will be without Scott Dann and James McFadden whilst influential centre half Roger Johnson should return to the line-up. Manchester City will definitely be missing Mario Balotelli and Adam Johnson whilst Carlos Tevez is rated as being very doubtful.

Back Birmingham's Baron Spell to End?

The reverse fixture in November saw a 0-0 draw at The City of Manchester Stadium between these two sides. Birmingham do not score a lot of goals and have had four draws out of their last six at home. Over the season, The Blues have only lost twice at home. Manchester City's away record has been strong, picking up four wins from their last six. The home side are 3/1 for a victory in this fixture with Manchester City the favourites at 5/6. Given Manchester City's recent stutter in matches away to Aston Villa and Notts County, betting odds on a draw of 12/5 looks good value for the punter.

Martins to Make his Mark

Obafemi Martins has joined Birmingham on a six month loan deal from Russian side Rubin Kazan. The former Newcastle United man is an explosive striker, who has often been criticised for his inconsistent form. On his day, he is more than a match for anyone, and punters might want to try their luck on him scoring anytime at 5/2. David Bentley also joined Birmingham on loan and had an impressive performance against Coventry at the weekend, scoring in the process. He is 14/1 to score first which looks a great price considering the midfielder's strong right foot and he will be high in confidence.

For Manchester City, all eyes are on Edin Dzeko given that City will be missing Balotelli and possibly Tevez. The Bosnian is 9/2 to score first and having notched his first for the club at the weekend, he looks like a strong contender to open the scoring on Wednesday.

This is sure to be a tight affair at St Andrews and odds of 8/11 on their being under 2.5 goals represents a fair price.

It will be fascinating to see if Alex McLeish's rejuvenated side are capable of turning over Roberto Mancini's cosmopolitan title challengers.
