Blues odds-on to sign Moses despite Whelan rant

Chelsea are understood to have had an initial £4million bid rejected

Sky Bet make Chelsea their 8/13 favourites to sign Wigan winger Victor Moses this summer, despite Latics chairman Dave Whelan insisting that the player would be best served staying at the DW Stadium for another season at least.

Chelsea are understood to have had an initial £4million bid rejected for the highly-rated winger, but could yet come back with an improved offer in order to tempt the 21-year-old to move to West London.

“We took this lad as a teenager, and everything he has he owes to Roberto Martinez and Wigan Athletic,” said Whelan to the Wigan Evening Post.

“Roberto has coached him and coached him, he’s helped him through games, and he’s played him and not played him at exactly the right time.”

Whelan had revealed earlier in the month that the club has made an offer of a new contract to Moses, and had hoped to hang on to the player.

“We’ve made him a very good offer – involving a doubling of his wages – over the next three years,” said Whelan.

“It’s down to whether the lad himself listens to sense, or whether he listens to his agent.

“The player has to realise that it’s his future we’re talking about – not his agent’s.”

QPR are quoted at odds of 8/1 in Sky Bet’s football transfer market for the player, with Arsenal and Liverpool each at 12/1 and Tottenham at 14/1.
