Bolton v Sunderland: Expect goals in relegation scrap

Bolton have by far the worst defensive record in the league

Bolton host Sunderland at the Reebok Stadium this Saturday with neither side in a league position they thought they would be. As early in the season as it is, this could be billed as a relegation scrap, given that Bolton lay 18th and Sunderland 17th with only goal difference separating the two sides. Where most relegation scraps can often be tight, this one should be different given the fact that both desperately need the three points to ease the strain on their respective managers. So both sides should come out looking for the win, which should see plenty of goals.

Bolton’s defence has been shockingly bad so far this season and they have by far the worst defensive record in the league, conceding 20 goals already; an average of three goals per game. Each of Bolton’s eight games and five of Sunderland’s so far this season have produced more than 2.5 goals, which is where our bet will come from.

The last time these two sides met it produced more than 2.5 goals and two of the last three have also.

Neither side have any new injury worries however Sunderland will be missing the suspended Sebastian Larsson. Goalkeeper Craig Gordon returns to the squad but is likely to only make the bench. Nicklas Bendtner returns to the Sunderland side after sitting out last week against his parent club Arsenal.

Expect few changes to the Bolton side that beat Wigan 3-1 last time out although they could recall Ivan Klasnic and Zat Knight should manager Owen Coyle see fit.

Recommended Bet:

Over 2.5 goals @ 10/11
