Bookies bet on Drogba diving drama

8/1 that he is cautioned for time-wasting

Didier Drogba attracted plenty of criticism for his theatrics in the first leg of Chelsea’s Champions League semi-final against Barcelona at Stamford Bridge last Wednesday, leading bookmaker Paddy Power to open betting markets on the Ivorian’s antics at the Camp Nou this midweek.

Odds are offered on the number of times that Chelsea’s physio will attend to Drogba during the 90 minutes, with ‘Five or More’ quoted at 12/1. Once is the 2/1 favourite in the market and twice is a 3/1 chance, with 9/4 offered that the forward doesn’t require medical assistance at any point during the match.

The Irish firm also offer odds of 2/1 that Drogba is booked, 14/1 that that booking is issued for diving and 8/1 that he is cautioned for time-wasting.

Former English referee Graham Poll believes that Drogba’s card will be marked, however. And that second-leg referee Cuneyt Cakir will be wary of the player’s antics after the first leg.

“The referee will see how Didier Drogba affected the pace of play in the first leg, breaking Barcelona's rhythm with a series of 'injuries', the most obvious being the groin problem after an hour,” said Poll in his Daily Mail column.

Barcelona remain the strong 4/9 favourites to qualify for the final of the Champions League, with Chelsea priced at odds of 13/8 to complete the job.
