Bookies expect goals at The Bridge

Sunderland had a great Christmas period

Fourth placed Chelsea host a rejuvenated Sunderland who have climbed into the top ten under new manager Martin O'Neil and we expect plenty of goals in this one. Both sides have had issues at the back in recent weeks and they have been relying on there front men to get them out of trouble.

Chelsea's win against Wolves last time out in the league halted a run of four winless games in a row and relieved a little of the pressure on the manager. Sunderland had a great Christmas period having won four of their last five games including a 1-0 victory over top-of-the-table Man City.

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas will not be able to select strikers Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou for this clash, with the Ivory Coast internationals having left to participate in the African Cup of Nations. Meanwhile, Michael Essien is reported to be making progress in his return from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, but is thought to be about a week away from fitness. Branislav Ivanovic and John Obi Mikel (both hamstring) are also sidelined for this clash.

Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill has Marcos Angeleri (knee) sidelined for this fixture, with Titus Bramble (Achilles) and Fraizer Campbell (knee) joining him in the treatment room. Wes Brown sustained a groin injury during the victory over Manchester City and is a doubt for this game. Craig Gordon is reported to have returned to action for the reserve side, but this clash could be a little early for a return.

As previously stated both sides have been dodgy in defence as of late with Chelsea failing to keep a clean sheet in there last six Premier League matches and Sunderland only keeping one clean sheet in their last seven. Of Chelsea's 20 Premier League matches this season, 14 of them have seen a greater goal tally than 2.5. Their home fans have seen plenty of goals too as from their 10 Premier League home matches, nine of them have ended with more than 2.5 goals. From Sunderland's 20 games in the league just over half of them have produced more than 2.5 goals.
