Bookies split on Premier League animal betting

Hills make a dog their market leader

Bookmaker opinion is split on which animal will next invade a Premier League football pitch during a live televised match, with William Hill making a dog their 6/4 favourite and a mouse heading Ladbrokes’ market at odds of 2/1.

Betting markets have sprung up after a cat stopped play in the Liverpool v Tottenham clash on Monday evening and opinions couldn’t be much more varied.

While Hills make a dog their market leader, Ladbrokes go 7/1 for a canine invasion. Sportingbet make a squirrel their 6/4 favourite but, William Hill offer 7/1 and Ladbrokes 5/1 on the bushy-tailed rodent.

“Many hard tackling players have in the past been compared with animals, but it is rare for a real animal – other than club mascots- to invade the pitch,” said Graham Sharpe of William Hill.

“The Anfield Cat was definitely the most interesting aspect of a very mundane goalless draw so we are inviting to punters to speculate on the creature involved next time it happens.”

Some more interesting selections in the market include a crocodile at odds of 1,000/1, a snake at 200/1 and a deer at 66/1.

Sportingbet have also opened an Anfield Cat Specials market and offer odds of 16/1 that the cat appears at Old Trafford this season, 25/1 that it is adopted by a Liverpool player, 33/1 it appears at Goodison Park (Everton’s entrance policy for cats must be stricter than Manchester United’s) and 5/1 that it makes another Anfield appearance.
