Bruce treads a fine line

Pressure on from the terraces is increasing

Odds on Sunderland boss Steve Bruce being the first Premier League manager to lose his job this season have been slashed once again following a lacklustre performance at Carrow Road.

The Black Cats rarely threatened the Norwich goal throughout the opening 85 minutes of the game and when Kieran Richardson did reduce the arrears to make it 2-1 with four minutes to play it was too little too late.

“We didn't play well enough. We played well for the first 10 minutes or so, but the night was littered with mistakes,” said Bruce.

“To win a game in the Barclays Premier League you need seven or eight players to perform to the level required and we didn't have that.”

Bruce is now priced at betting odds of 7/2 by William Hill to become the next Premier League manager to lose his job. Steve Kean is the 4/7 favourite in the same market.

Pressure on the Sunderland manager from the terraces is increasing at a rapid rate and anything other than a win at home to West Brom this coming weekend could signal the end of Bruce’s tenure on Wearside.
