Chelsea cut to 8/1 for Champions League

di Matteo's side were priced at 15/8 to qualify

Bookmaker Sky Bet have cut Chelsea’s odds on winning the Champions League from 28/1 to 8/1 after securing a place in the quarter-finals of the competition with a 5-4 aggregate win over Napoli.

Roberto di Matteo’s side were priced at 15/8 to qualify as they looked to overhaul a two-goal deficit going into the second leg. Goals from Didier Drogba, John Terry and Frank Lampard forced the tie into extra time, where a Branislav Ivanovic strike secured Chelsea’s progression.

“Chelsea’s Champions League odds have been significantly cut after overcoming the odds to make the final eight with the old guard doing the business,” said Sky Bet’s Joe Petyt.

“However, as Real Madrid showed with their convincing win, the competition for the trophy is extremely tough with Bayern Munich (6/1) also showing how good they are at home with Tuesday night’s 7-0 thumping of Basel.”

Di Matteo has now been cut to odds of 6/1 (from 8/1) to still be in charge at Stamford Bridge on the first day of next season. The Italian has now overseen three consecutive victories since replacing Andre Villas-Boas as Chelsea boss, with a big test of his credentials coming against Manchester City next Wednesday.
