Chelsea favourites to capture Modric

Chelsea's pursuit of the Croatian midfielder last summer was no secret

Sky Bet make Chelsea their 5/2 favourites to sign Luka Modric this summer after Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp admitted that the player could leave the club in the upcoming transfer window.

“Last summer it was vital that we kept hold of Luka, I would be lying if I said I was sure that he would stay [this summer],” confessed Redknapp.

“You would like to think Luka would still be here, but you never know.”

Chelsea’s pursuit of the Croatian midfielder last summer was no secret, with Spurs reportedly turning down a £40 million bid from the Stamford Bridge club on deadline day.

Manchester City are quoted at odds of 11/2 to sign Modric this summer, while a move to Manchester United is priced at 6/1.

The admission from the Spurs boos comes just days after winger Gareth Bale admitted that he could leave White Hart Lane if the club did not qualify for the Champions League. However, Redknapp was confident that the youngster would be staying in North London.

“I wouldn't see Gareth Bale wanting to leave here,” added Redknapp.

“At the moment he is happy here, a big fish here. He is still learning the game, a young boy, and this is where he needs to be.”

Sky Bet are offering odds of 4/5 that Tottenham finish this season in the top four, although that may not be enough to ensure Champions League football for next season.
