Chelsea into 9/4 to see off Barcelona

The Blues went into the first leg priced at odds for 7/2 for qualification

Roberto di Matteo’s Chelsea side have been cut to odds of 9/4 to book their place in the Champions League final after beating the defending champions 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

The Blues went into the first leg priced at odds for 7/2 for qualification with bookmaker Sky Bet, and 10/1 to go on and win the Champions League. However, those odds have been slashed thanks to Didier Drogba’s first-half strike with the West Londoners now a 7/1 chance for European glory.

“Chelsea were heavily supported pre-match and punters who backed the Blues at 4/1 will be pretty pleased with themselves after Barcelona failed to convert their chances,” said Sky Bet football trader Joe Petyt.

“It is hard to imagine Barca being so wasteful back at the Nou Camp and we still make them favourites to progress, but Chelsea have certainly given themselves a decent chance of making the final.”

However, perhaps indulging in a bit of mind games, Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola insisted that Chelsea were now the favourites to progress to the final in Munich next month.

“I would say the favourites are now Chelsea because winning 1-0 at home is a very good result for them,” professed the Spaniard.

Barcelona have drifted from 4/5 to evens in the overall Champions League winner betting market, with Real Madrid 11/4 and Bayern Munich 7/2.
