Chelsea v Arsenal: Goals fancied at The Bridge

Both defences have looked less than solid of late

Arsenal visit Chelsea this Saturday lunchtime for what is arguably a must-win game for both sides. Chelsea after a poor result at QPR last week and Arsenal playing catch up after struggling in the opening months of the season.

Both teams played in midweek, Arsenal having 24 hours more to recover, not that it should matter too much as only Thomas Vermaelen and perhaps Andrey Arshavin are likely to play again. Chelsea were forced to endure extra time at Goodison Park and played Petr Cech, David Luiz, Nicolas Anelka, Daniel Sturridge, Alex and Branislav Ivanovic.

Arsenal should be slightly fresher, and on the back of seven wins from eight, their confidence is slowly returning. Chelsea however played well with nine men against QPR last weekend and have looked impressive at times this season, especially at home. However they come into the game missing Didier Drogba, which as history tells us, versus Arsenal, is a big loss. Since signing for Chelsea the Ivorian has scored 13 goals in 14 matches, and Arsenal's record in those 14 games is W1, D3, L10. So even though Drogba is quite clearly not the force of old, he is very much Chelsea's talisman against The Gunners.

Arsenal have, also, won six times at Stamford Bridge, which is the most by any team since the Premier League began and, in general, they have a good overall record against Chelsea.

In terms of team news, Arsenal welcome back Vermaelen, and are now only missing Kieran Gibbs, Carl Jenkinson, Abou Diaby and Jack Wilshere. Chelsea will be without the suspended Drogba and the injured Ramires and Michael Essien, whilst a cloud hangs over John Terry which may see him "rested".

Both defences have looked less than solid of late, and as a result of this and two highly attacking sides coming face to face, I can see goals. Over 2.5 goals is available @4/6 with most firms, if this is too short I would recommend a bet on the draw best price 3/1 at William Hill and in a combination of both a small interest in the correct score of 2-2 @16/1 with Skybet.

Both teams score highly on the total corner count as well, with Arsenal first in total per game with over eight so far, and Chelsea not far behind. Take a look at the over 13 corners market with Stan James, which should be around the 3/1 mark.
