Chelsea v Genk: Blues to cruise to win

Genk are yet to score a goal in the competition

Chelsea host Genk at Stamford Bridge this Wednesday and will be looking to continue their impressive run of form. Chelsea have been going along quite nicely this season and somewhat under the radar which will suit them for a change. They have only lost once all season and top their Champions League group. A win this midweek will cement their position and give them a real foothold for qualification for the knockout stages.

Genk on the other hand has started the season very poorly and they have only won a total of six games out of their first 17 matches.

So from the form lines above and the gulf between the two sides it’s pretty clear a home win should be on the cards. However this offers us no value at a best price of 1/8 so we will have to look elsewhere for our selection.

When we look at the group on a whole, then in particular Genk, one thing stands out – they are yet to score a goal in the competition. Chelsea has only conceded once from their first two matches, a late penalty away from home at Valencia.

It’s the first meeting between these two sides and it’s the first time that Genk has ever faced an English side. Chelsea however has faced Belgian opposition on six occasions and they won all six of those matches. Another thing that stands out from those matches is the Belgian sides have all failed to score against The Blues.

Genk travel to Stamford Bridge with a hat full of injuries and will be without top goalscorer this season JelleVosson, Jose Nadson, TorbenJoneliet and JereonSimaeys. Injuries have been so bad to the Genk squad that they have had to include two youth team players in their 21-man squad.

Chelsea’s only new injury concern is Ramirez who picked up a knee injury against Everton on Saturday and is likely to be replaced by Florent Malouda. With a lax performance against Everton, John Obi Mikel could be replaced by Raul Meireles, who will sit back and protect the defence.
