Chelsea v Man City: Goals galore between the Blues

Both sides' matches this season have seen bundles of goals

Chelsea host Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Monday night in what looks like a mouth-watering top of the table clash. City will be hoping for all three points to restore their five-point lead after Manchester United’s 4-1 win at home to Wolves on Saturday. Chelsea will also be going all out for the win as they look to move back into the Champions League positions after sliding down to fifth following Arsenal's win against Everton. As the home side the pressure will be on Chelsea to come out and attack from the off and we all know how devastating Man City can be on the counter attack so this looks like it could be an open game.

Chelsea have no new injuries concerns ahead of this clash but they are still without long term absentees Michael Essien, Hilario and Josh McEachran. However, they will be without the suspended David Luiz who picked up his fifth yellow card of the season against Newcastle last weekend. Manager Andre Villas-Boas will probably opt to bring Jose Bosingwa in to replace Luiz and move Branislav Ivanovic into the centre of defence. It’s unlikely he will slot Alex straight in after the defender's recent transfer request was accepted by the club.

Man City boss Roberto Mancini may also have to make changes to his sides defence after Micah Richards picked up a calf injury against Bayern Munich in midweek and is a major doubt. Pablo Zabaleta will probably replace Richards at right-back.

With such an open game expected there can only be one selection for this one and that is over 2.5 goals to be scored in the match. Both sides’ matches this season have seen bundles of goals and this one should be no different. From Chelsea’s 14 games this season 11 of them have produced a greater goal tally of 2.5 goals and all seven of their home matches have seen more than 2.5 goals also. Twelve of Man City’s 14 games this season have produced more than 2.5 goals and six of their seven away matches have also.

Both sides have been free scoring so far this season and they both sit inside the top four scoring teams in the league. Man City have averaged 3.43 goals per game and Chelsea has averaged 2.21.
