City in to 13/8 for Premier League title

The draw would favour the visitors and is quoted at odds of 23/10

Having been as long as 12/1 in the Premier League winner betting a fortnight ago Manchester City have now been cut to 13/8 with Ladbrokes after slashing an eight point gap at the top to just three.

Manchester United have lost to Wigan and drawn at home to Everton in the past seven days to hand City a lifeline, with Sir Alex Ferguson’s men drifting from a 1/50 shoo-in to their current price of 4/9 for a 20th English league title.

“This is going right down to the wire and all the money is for City to steal the title at The Etihad. Nifty punters that backed City at 12/1 will be laughing all the way to the bank if they win it now,” said Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes.

Next Monday’s Manchester derby is now being earmarked as a potential title decider. City are priced as the 5/4 betting favourites, cut from 11/8, for the three points, with United at 2/1 for victory. The draw would favour the visitors and is quoted at odds of 23/10.

“We need a result. It's a derby of amazing proportions,” confessed Ferguson after his side’s 4-4 draw with Everton.

“It is probably the most important derby game in my time. We have to go there, make sure we perform in the right way and not give away silly goals.”

Roberto Mancini, however, acknowledged that United were still the strong favourites for the title: “They're top, three points ahead. After the derby they have two easy games. We don't have more chance to win.”
