D-Day for Kean and his Rovers

one thing Blackburn have not tended to struggle with in the league is scoring

Ewood Park is the scene for a massive game on Saturday that could dictate the future of Steve Kean as manager of Blackburn Rovers. They entertain Swansea, who last week were part of an emotional clash with Aston Villa only a day after the sad passing of Wales manager Gary Speed.

Blackburn had another setback in midweek with a defeat at Cardiff, denying them a Carling cup semi-final with Crystal Palace. Kean said after the loss that he had ‘forfeited’ the game so that he could concentrate on the home game with the Swans. Consequently there is now a lot of pressure on him to come up with the goods. It will be difficult against the Welsh outfit, who are joined by Manchester United at the top of the clean sheets table with six shutouts. However, one thing Blackburn have not tended to struggle with in the league is scoring, only failing to score in three out of the 13 games so far this season.

As for Swansea, they are bottom of this particular table, being scoreless in seven of the 13. However, I expect Swansea to find holes in the Blackburn back-line, with the home side failing to keep a clean sheet so far this season.

Under former manager Sam Allardyce, Rovers looked capable of keeping clean sheets, but under different management it has proved to be an arduous task. With it being a game that the home side simply have to win, it should be an open game with Swansea bringing their ‘total football’ approach to Lancashire knowing a victory could take them into the top half and a defeat for Rovers could see the Indian owners finally wield the axe on the sitting duck that Kean has become over recent months.

An over 2.5 goals bet looks a good wager, Victor Chandler offering it at 4/5. Ultimately, I believe Swansea’s defence can keep them in the game for long periods, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the game ended up in a score-draw. 1-1 is available at 6/1 with Blue Square and 2-2 is 14/1 with many companies.
