Di Matteo odds-on for permanent Chelsea role

Chelsea are now the 15/8 second-favourites to win the Champions League

Roberto di Matteo is now the odds on favourite to be named the next permanent manager of Chelsea after guiding The Blues into the Champions League final with a 2-2 draw at the Camp Nou on Tuesday night.

Bet365 had offered odds of 9/4 on the Italian being named as Andre Villas-Boas’s permanent successor prior to their aggregate triumph over Barcelona, but have now been forced to slash those odds to 4/5 in the aftermath of Tuesday’s match.

Jose Mourniho, who had for a long time been the favourite with the bookmakers, is now a 9/2 chance to return to Stamford Bridge for next season. Laurent Blanc was rumoured to be in contention but is now out to 8/1, while Rafael Benitez, who was also linked with the position, is a 10/1 shot.

Chelsea are now the 15/8 second-favourites to win the Champions League, behind Real Madrid at 13/10 and ahead of Bayern Munich at odds of 5/2.

Attentions will now revert to the Premier League as Chelsea host QPR at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Di Matteo’s men are four points behind fourth-place Newcastle and quoted at odds of 2/1 for a top-four finish.
