Ancelotti is likely to persist with the formation deployed on Sunday

Fernando Torres may have drawn a blank against his former employers on Sunday but it is surely only a matter of time before he finds the back of the net for Chelsea.

Carlo Ancelotti was forced to defend the £50million acquisition of the Spanish striker in the aftermath of the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool but insisted that the 26-year-old will soon justify the fee paid.

"Fernando has experience, he has confidence and didn't show problems before the game,' said Ancelotti.

"We have to give Fernando time to adjust to the shape but I think that he will do it quickly."

Ancelotti is likely to persist with the formation deployed on Sunday that saw Torres play alongside Didier Drogba in attack with Nicolas Anelka in 'the hole' just behind the strikers and in front of the midfield.

With 13 games to go in the season and 10 points to catch up on league leaders Manchester United the trio will need to gel soon if The Blues are to maintain aspirations of a successive Premier League coronation.

The bookmakers have released betting odds on when Torres will get his first league goal for Chelsea. They make next Monday's game away to Fulham the 11/10 favourite with the home game against Manchester United on March 01 a 9/2 chance.
