Fight for top-four finish intensifies

Chelsea have lost more points from winning positions than any other side in the league

Arsenal host Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium in the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday with both sides looking to seal a top-four finish in the Premier League. A Chelsea win would take them to within four points of Arsenal with a game in hand to play.

Mikel Arteta will not feature again this season after suffering ankle ligament damage in the 2-1 defeat against Wigan on Monday. Jack Wilshere and Per Mertesacker remain unavailable while on-loan midfielder Yossi Benayoun is ineligible to play against his parent club. Laurent Koscielny returns from suspension but Abou Diaby is unlikely to start despite returning to training.

David Luiz is out with a hamstring injury for the visitors and Branislav Ivanovic is suspended. Chelsea’s midweek win over Barcelona came just three days after an FA Cup semi-final triumph over Tottenham Hotspur and, with a return-leg to come against the European Champions on Tuesday, it seems likely that Roberto Di Matteo will be forced into rotating his squad. Ashley Cole may miss out while the likes of Fernando Torres, Daniel Sturridge and Michael Essien will all be hoping to return to the starting line-up.

Di Matteo has only tasted defeat once in his 13 games in charge but the Blues have won only one of their last seven away games in the Premier League. Arsenal, meanwhile, have won nine of their last 11 Premier League games despite two recent defeats at the hands of relegation-threatened Queens Park Rangers and Wigan Athletic.

Chelsea have lost more points from winning positions than any other side in the league while Arsenal have won six games having conceded the first goal. The Gunners can be backed at 9/1 with Boylesports to come from behind and win.

Manchester City and Liverpool are the only sides with better home defensive records than Arsenal while only the top two in the league have conceded fewer than Chelsea on their travels. On that basis, the under 2.5 goals market may be worth a look – Ladbrokes and Paddy Power both offer even money for the game to yield fewer than three goals.
