Fulham v Chelsea Betting Preview

We saw last weekend that playing all three strikers doesn't necessarily equate to goals and that applies even more so against one of the league's in-form defences.

Having watched Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham all win at the weekend Carlo Ancelotti knows that his side cannot afford any more slip-ups as they make the short trip to Craven Cottage.

Defeat to Fulham in this London derby would leave Chelsea 13 points behind Manchester United at the top of the Premier League and, perhaps more importantly, three behind Spurs in fourth place. Losing here is simply not an option.

David Luiz is expected to make his first start after impressing from the bench against Liverpool last weekend. Jose Bosingwa is a doubt with an unspecified injury while Alex, Yossi Benayoun and Yuri Zhirkov are all out.

For Fulham Bobby Zamora is still a few weeks away from a return, despite scoring for the reserves in midweek, Gael Kakuta is ineligible under the terms of his loan arrangement and both Philippe Senderos and Dickson Etuhu sit this one out through injury.

Three in a Bed

Ancelotti is likely to persist with the three-pronged attack of Fernando Torres, Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka, with the Frenchman playing in 'the hole'. Despite the unquestionable talent that the trio posses, it is only natural that they will take some time to gel as a unit. Unfortunately, time isn't something that Chelsea have a lot of in terms of their Premier League aspirations.

We saw last weekend that playing all three strikers doesn't necessarily equate to goals and that applies even more so against one of the league's in-form defences. The Cottagers have won their last three home games without conceding a goal and you can back Under 2.5 goals to be scored in this match at odds of 10/11.

Anelka and Torres are both available to back at around the 11/10 mark to find the net at anytime in the game with Anelka, who is arguably in the best form of the three, at a much more appealing 2/1.

Fulham's dangerman Clint Dempsey has scored four in his last six Premier League appearances and can be backed at 3/1 to improve on that tally.

Craven Haven

After a slow start it appears that Mark Hughes's ideas and plans are now beginning to be implemented by the Fulham players. The Cottagers have lost just one of their last eight games and won their last five at home, in all competitions.

On that basis the 4/1 being offered about a Fulham win this Monday evening looks a little disrespectful, as does the 8/11 on a Chelsea victory.

However, The Blues haven't lost at Fulham since 2006 and if another week together on the training ground is enough to see their attacking trio click into place then they, of course, have enough match-winners in their armoury to see of Fulham.

Although one suspects that Chelsea's main aspirations for this season lie in their attempts to conquer the continent they simply cannot afford to finish outside the top four. A few months ago that scenario was unthinkable, another loss here and the possibility would become a harrowing reality.
