Fulham v Tottenham: Spurs to edge thriller

Spurs have taken 19 points from their last seven matches

Fulham host Tottenham Hotspur this Sunday at Craven Cottage in this London derby. Spurs haven’t played here since losing 4-0 in the FA Cup last season but both teams have good reasons to be feeling confident going into this match and it looks set to be a top class clash.

Martin Jol’s side are without some key players such as Simon Davies (knee injury) and Aaron Hughes (thigh injury). Orlando Sa is also sidelined with hamstring problems and there are serious doubts over Philippe Senderos who is suffering from a recurring thigh injury.

Harry Redknapp is also missing some of his key players with Michael Dawson out with an Achilles injury and Tom Huddlestone with an ankle injury. Niko Kranjcar and Vedran Corluka are unavailable after both received knocks while on international duty. However, Steven Pienaar and William Gallas both played midweek signalling their return from injury.

Fulham are a hard team to breakdown and the team should be full of confidence after a good win last week over Wigan and an emphatic midweek win in the Europa League. Fulham wont be happy though at their position of fifteenth in the Premier League and will be eager to grab all three points off their London rivals. Fulham came away with a 6-0 win in their last London derby at Craven Cottage so maybe this is just the sort of match they thrive on.

Spurs have looked like a team brimming with confidence lately, and quite rightly so. They have taken 19 points from their last seven matches and sit nicely in fifth place in the Premier League, with a game in hand. It is without a doubt that they will be looking for a big win this Sunday to send out a big statement in their chase for the league’s top-spot. Spurs also played midweek so both sides wont have had much time to rest. However, Jol put out a strong team whereas Redknapp went with a reserve line-up and this may give Spurs the upper-hand in the fatigue battle.

Eight of Tottenham’s nine league games have produced more than 2.5 goals and I believe that this game could produce a lot of goals also. Both teams have very much in-form strikers with Rafael van der Vaart (Spurs) who has scored six goals in his last five league matches and Andy Johnson (Fulham) who scored a brace midweek. However, I think it will be Tottenham that will out-class Fulham in good style and will come away with a big win.
