Fulham v W Krakow: A tough nut to crack

Fulham are a tough team to breakdown

Fulham welcome Wisla Krakow to Craven Cottage as they look to avenge a 1-0 defeat in the reverse fixture two weeks ago; a result that was somewhat overshadowed by the controversial dismissal of Moussa Dembele.

It may only be early November, but both teams have played their fair-share of games this season, this being Fulham’s 23rd and Krakow’s 22nd. Come the end of the campaign, this may affect both sides, but there should be no sign of fatigue during this game.

Although Martin Jol’s men haven’t exactly been playing great, eye-catching football, since the Dutchman’s arrival in London, Fulham are a tough team to breakdown. This is evident from their 12 clean sheets already this campaign. They also enter this match having conceded just four goals in 11 Europa League games.

Fulham will be without the suspended Dembele, so Andy Johnson and Bobby Zamora both look set to start. However, both players aren’t exactly firing on all cylinders this season, with just three goals apiece. Both are available at 4/1 to open the scoring, but after scoring a goal at the weekend, Clint Dempsey’s confidence will be high and betting odds of 9/2 for him to grab the first goal may be more tempting.

The Polish champions will be without the services of Osman Chavez, who, like Dembele, was sent off in the reverse fixture in Krakow. The Poles have no major injury problems and are expected to line-up with a similar team to the one that beat Fulham a fortnight ago, with young Michal Czekaj expected to replace the suspended Chavez in central defence.

Victory for Fulham will put them in a great position to qualify for the knockout rounds of the competition and the 2009/10 runners-up should have more than enough to pick up all three points from this contest. The only problem is, the bookie’s are of the same opinion and Fulham are only 4/11 at best to grab the victory. Martin Jol will be looking for his men to grab an early goal to settle the nerves and a Fulham HT/FT result certainly looks appealing.
