Gerrard return pleases Dalglish

Gerrard is 15/8 to score this weekend

Steven Gerrard returned to the Liverpool first team for the first time since March when being introduced as a substitute for the final 20 minutes of The Reds’ 2-1 Carling Cup win over Brighton.

The Liverpool captain had been out of action with a groin injury for six months before being named on the bench for yesterday’s trip the Amex Stadium.

“I've never been out for that length of time fortunately,” said manager Kenny Dalglish. “But for Steven, coming back in, it was fantastic for everyone connected with the football club to see him back.

“We're more pleased for Steven than anything else because he's worked really hard to get here. He has had a few disappointments along the way and just to get 20 minutes will have given him a lift.”

Dalglish, however, is keen not to rush the midfielder back into the starting XI and will monitor his progress ahead of the weekend game against Wolves.

“We will manage the situation as diligently as we have done to get him this far. We want the same as what he wants but we need to be careful with him.”

Gerrard is priced at 15/8 by Boylesports to get on the scoresheet at Anfield this weekend.
