Gunners 11/10 to incur first-leg deficit

Milan have lost just one of their 11 home games in Serie A

AC Milan host Arsenal at the San Siro on Wednesday night in the first leg of the Champions League’s last-16.

Milan will be without Antonio Cassano while Alexandre Pato and the experienced Alessandro Nesta are doubts. Former Manchester City striker Robinho may start but Liverpool loanee Alberto Aquilani is out injured. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has scored 21 times this season and he will be the main goal threat for the home side. BetVictor offer a best-priced 19/4 for the Swedish striker to break the deadlock.

The visitors will be without Per Mertesacker, Abou Diaby, Carl Jenkinson, Jack Wilshere and Andre Santos. Having scored three goals in six substitute appearances, Thierry Henry may feature for the last time before returning to the New York Red Bulls following his loan spell. Gervinho is unlikely to be involved having played in the final of the African Cup of Nations with the Ivory Coast on Sunday.

Before Saturday’s 2-1 defeat of Udinese, the Serie A league-leaders had gone three games without a win. They also failed to win any of their last three games in the Champions League group stage. In each of their last three European campaigns, AC Milan have been knocked out at the hands of English opposition and Arsenal are available at even money with BetVictor to inflict the same fate on the seven-time European Champions this year by qualifying for the quarter-final at their expense.

Both sides are capable of keeping possession for long periods but, with the experience of Mark Van Bommel and Clarence Seedorf in midfield, Milan will look to impose a greater physical influence on the game. They have lost just one of their 11 home games in Serie A, conceding only five goals in the process. Sky Bet offer 4/5 for fewer than 2.5 goals to be scored during the game.

Arsenal’s defence, in contrast, has been the subject of much criticism throughout the season. Only Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic have conceded more league goals away from home and, on that basis, the home side look excellent value at 11/10 to win the game.
