Gunners on the brink

The Gunners will be hoping to avoid a third successive defeat

Fourth-placed Arsenal host third-placed Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday in the 172nd North London derby.

Per Mertesacker, Sebastien Squillaci and Francis Coquelin are all missing for Arsenal but Laurent Koscielny looks set for a return to action following a brief lay-off.

Luka Modric and Rafael van der Vaart are slight doubts for the visitors but manager Harry Redknapp is likely to give them every opportunity to prove their fitness ahead of kick-off.

Ten points currently separate the two sides and anything other than an Arsenal win would all but confirm that this season's North London bragging rights will belong to the Spurs fans at the end of the season.

The Gunners will be hoping to avoid a third successive defeat following their recent poor performances against Sunderland and AC Milan. Spurs, despite enjoying a 5-0 mauling of Newcastle in their last league outing, have won just three of their last seven matches in all competitions and were held to a goalless draw by Stevenage last week.

The attacking flair of both sides suggests that goals should not be in short supply. Tottenham and Arsenal are the third and fourth top scorers in the Premier League respectively and Coral's odds of 8/13 are worth backing for both teams to score during the game.

With both sides struggling for consistency in recent weeks, any result is possible. The goalscorer markets may therefore provide a more attractive bet. All eyes will be on Emmanuel Adebayor on his return to the Emirates Stadium and, after scoring his first goal since Christmas in the 5-0 win over Newcastle, he will be full of confidence up against his former club. Robin Van Persie is the league's top scorer and he will be crucial to Arsenal's push for a top-four finish. William Hill offer 9/2 for Robin Van Persie and Emmanuel Adebayor to both score at any time during the game.
