Gyan linked with Sunderland exit

"I do not want Sunderland fans to think I am not happy in Sunderland."

Asamoah Gyan continues to be linked with a move away from the Stadium of Light as the Turkish transfer deadline approaches.

The Ghanaian was rumoured to have handed in a transfer request prior to Wednesday’s Premier League transfer deadline, but later moved to quash the idea that he wished to leave Sunderland.

“Those rumours have disturbed me to be honest,” Gyan told Sky Sports News.

“I do not want Sunderland fans to think I am not happy in Sunderland. I am happy with Steve Bruce who invested so much money in me and I will need to repay his faith.”

However, it is now being widely reported that a host of clubs in Turkey – where the transfer window doesn’t close until Monday night – are still considering moves for the 25-year-old.

Representatives from Marseille also stoked the fire by claiming that Gyan was offered to them as part of a swap deal.

“Sunderland proposed that we could have Asamoah Gyan, but we decided not to follow through with it,” claimed Marseille sporting director Jose Anigo. “This was simply because Jean-Pierre Gignac did not want to go to Sunderland [in exchange].”

Gyan scored in scored in Ghana’s 2-0 win over Swaziland on Friday before picking up an injury in the match. He is, however, expected to be fit for Sunderland’s game against Chelsea on Saturday, if he remains at the club.
