King Kenny to reign over Queens Park Rangers

Liverpool have the joint-best defensive record in the league

Queens Park Rangers travel to Anfield on Saturday afternoon with Liverpool looking to bounce back from their 1-0 defeat at Fulham on Monday.

Liverpool have taken eight points from their games against last year’s top four but have dropped points against Stoke, Swansea, Norwich and Sunderland. If the Reds are to achieve their goal of Champions League football next year, they must start turning draws into wins and, on Saturday, they must do so without the midfield trio of Steven Gerrard, Lucas Leiva and Jay Spearing.

Neil Warnock may again be without first-choice goalkeeper Paddy Kenny meaning Radek Cerny could keep his place. Kieron Dyer and DJ Campbell also remain doubts. Like their counterparts, Rangers have struggled for consistency this season but they find themselves in a very satisfactory mid-table position despite having kept just one clean sheet in their last nine games. That solitary shutout came against Chelsea, who were reduced to nine men before half-time. Only Norwich and the bottom three have conceded more than QPR and, whilst Liverpool have not exactly been free-scoring, they will fancy their chances of breaching a vulnerable away defence.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have the joint-best defensive record in the league and have not conceded more than one goal in any of their 12 games since the 4-0 defeat at Spurs in mid-September when they too were reduced to nine men. Under 2.5 goals in Saturday's game looks good value at 5/4 with Victor Chandler.

Star man Luis Suarez has looked threatening without scoring in his last six outings for Liverpool and the tricky Uruguayan must be due a goal. Suarez will want to become the subject of tabloid headlines for the right reasons and Sky Bet offer 4/6 for Suarez to score and Liverpool to win. However, Coral's odds of 10/11 for Suarez to score at any time would yield a 36% greater profit than Sky Bet's offer and a payout would not depend upon a Liverpool win.

Liverpool are unbeaten at Anfield this season but have drawn their last four home games allowing a five-point gap to emerge between them and a top-four berth. With the pressure on to keep the Champions league positions in sight, the home side should be taking all three points from a cagey affair.
