Liverpool v Newcastle betting: Nervy start expected

Newcastle's last three away games have all been equal at half time

Many remember that amazing 4-4 draw between these two in the early days of the Premier League and every time they have met since a classic is expected. A lot has changed since those days with both sides vying to get back to their peak. Both sides have started this season well and find themselves in sixth and seventh positions in the table. They also sit three and four points off of a Champions League spot, so there is a lot to play for Friday night.

Liverpool have no new injury concerns with captain Steven Gerrard in contention for his first start since returning from injury. The Reds will, however, miss there leading goal scorer Luiz Suarez who is unavailable through suspension. Newcastle have quite a few injury worries but they are slowly beginning to get players back. However, manager Alan Pardew has confirmed that their leading goal scorer Demba Ba is a doubt for this fixture and faces a late fitness test.

With so much on the line and with both sides potentially missing their star strikers this could be an edgy, close affair from the off. So our selection will be a draw after 45 minutes. Of Liverpool’s last six games, four of them have seen the scores level at half time. The same stat can be said about Newcastle’s last six matches also. Also of Liverpool’s last six home fixtures four of those have been level at half time. Newcastle’s last three away games have all been equal at half time.
