Liverpool v Wigan Betting Odds

Liverpool's cracking three points at Stamford Bridge last week against a toothless Chelsea was the strongest indicator yet that The Reds have improved immeasurably under Dalglish.

King Kenny has been the catalyst for a revival at Anfield that has seen them take steps towards being back where the Liverpool fans believe they belong.

Roberto Martinez's Wigan are locked in a relegation battle that they have been in for the entire season. The Latics are precariously poised in the relegation zone with just goal difference keeping them from safety.

Liverpool should have captain Steven Gerrard available along with Martin Kelly who were both rested for the international fixtures during the week. Joe Cole and Martin Skrtel remain doubtful whilst £35m man Andy Carroll is still out with his thigh injury. Wigan have a doubt over Gary Caldwell who missed Scotland's game with Northern Ireland due to a fractured cheekbone.

Martinez will need to get his Latics right

Liverpool's cracking three points at Stamford Bridge last week against a toothless Chelsea was the strongest indicator yet that The Reds have improved immeasurably under Kenny Dalglish. They currently sit sixth in the table and are just six points off a Champions League place having lost just one of their last six home games picking up four wins in the process.

Wigan will take confidence from their dramatic 4-3 win over Blackburn last weekend and their away form this season is not as poor as you would perhaps think. They have won two, drawn five and lost five this season whilst conceding just 18 goals, which is not all that bad.

However, Wigan have never won at Anfield, so it will take a massive upturn in fortunes for The Latics to pick up all three points here. Liverpool are gathering momentum, although some of their performances have not been outstanding they are managing to grind out results when necessary.

With the supporters now on side, it is difficult to see anything but a Liverpool victory on Saturday and at 4/11 for a home win, the bookies would appear to agree.

New Luis of Life

Uruguayan front man Luis Suarez scored on his debut against Stoke last week and is sure to be involved at the weekend. He was left out for the Chelsea game with Dalglish citing that is was perhaps a bit early for Suarez to be thrown in to such a big game. His performances at the World Cup were very exciting and showed his ability; at 3/1 he looks like a great bet to score first.

It has not exactly rained goals at Anfield this season and Wigan's goal scoring exploits away from home are often negligible. Betting odds of Evens on there being under 2.5 goals is generous in what could be a tight affair.

Results are the main focus for Kenny Dalglish at the moment, in the long run he will be looking to add the performances, but the results will suffice for now. Three points for his Liverpool side here will be welcomed no matter how they go about gaining them.
