Madrid made favourites to sign RVP

The Dutchman's current deal at the Emirates is due to expire in 2013

Bookmaker Sportingbet make Real Madrid their 7/4 favourites to sign striker Robin van Persie in the summer as speculation surrounding the Arsenal striker’s contract continues to mount.

The Dutchman’s current deal at the Emirates is due to expire in 2013 and Sportingbet also offer odds of 11/10 that he has left Arsenal by the first day of the 2012/13 season, although the player has reiterated his desire to discuss his future in the summer.

“There have been a lot of stories, generally contradictory ones, about my contract situation recently so I'd like to make it clear,” said Van Persie in the club’s official matchday programme.

“There's nothing complicated or sinister - the club and I have both agreed to speak at the end of the season and see how things stand. The boss, Ivan Gazidis and I are all comfortable with it.”

Sportingbet offer odds of 4/1 that Van Persie follows in Cesc Fabregas’s footsteps and joins Barcelona in the summer, while a move to Manchester City is priced at odds of 9/2.

The 28-year-old’s equalizer against Tottenham at the weekend was his 23rd Premier League goal of the season, and left him six clear of Wayne Rooney in the race to be the division’s top scorer. It is now a 1/4 chance that he takes top-flight English football’s golden boot award at the end of the campaign.
