Man City v Notts County Betting Preview

Despite their lowly league position County don't tend to concede too many on their travels but they all so don't play teams the calibre of City each week

Notts County were only 10 minutes away from a historic victory when the sides met three weeks a go at Meadow Lane but Edin Dzeko's first goal for Manchester City ensured Roberto Mancini's men would have another bite at the cherry this Sunday.

City were at almost full strength in their midweek 0-0 draw with Aris Salonika and with the games coming thick and fast it is likely that Mancini will field an almost entirely different starting XI. Mario Balotelli could start after coming on as a late substitute in Greece but it is unlikely that James Milner or Nigel de Jong will be risked for this game.

County will have to make changes from the side that defeated Colchester 2-0 in midweek as loan signings Kevin McDonald and Conor Clifford are both cup tied.

Citizens should 'Kane' County

Last weekend's unfortunate defeat to rivals Manchester United effectively ruled the sky blues out of the title race so Mancini will be taking this competition seriously as one of two remaining opportunities to gain some silverware.

However, the midweek draw in Greece means that City have only won one of their last six fixtures in all competitions. Despite this, their form at Eastland's remains impressive having won five of their last six games at home.

Paul Ince will ask his side for the same belief and fighting spirit that saw them pick up a well-deserved draw when the two sides previously met. However he is unlikely to view this competition as a priority with his side sitting just four points clear of the League One relegation zone.

The Magpies have only won one of their last six league games on their travels but are undefeated in the last four. They also recorded a hugely impressive and surprising 2-1 victory at Sunderland in the previous of the competition.

Without the aid of the bogged up Meadow Lane surface there is unlikely to be any shocks at Eastland's this weekend and betting odds of 1/6 certainly reflects this.

It's not all rosy in the garden of Edin

Edin Dzeko has hardly set the heather alight since his £32.5 million pound move from Wolfsbug, having only netted once in his seven appearances for the club. The Bosnian even drew criticism from his own manager after another disappointing performance in midweek.

"I expect more for Dzeko - he needs to improve,' said the Italian

With Mancini desperate for his new man to hit some form it is likely he will start him against a lower league opponent in an attempt to build some confidence. He is 2/1 to net the first goal.

Man City will have to be wary of Notts County's strike duo Lee Hughes and Craig Westcarr as the pair are a constant threat and have netted an impressive 23 goals between them this season. They also caused Sunderland's defence major issues and they can be backed at 3/1 and 7/2 respectively to bag a goal at anytime.

Despite their lowly league position County don't tend to concede too many on their travels but they all so don't play teams the calibre of City each week on wide flawless pitches so backing over 4.5 goals at 3/1 may be worth a punt.

The romance of the cup almost saw the oldest club in the world defeat perhaps the richest just three weeks ago but expect money to shine through on this occasion.
