Man City v Napoli Betting Preview

the dawning of a new era for City

Manchester City and Napoli take their Champions League bows at the Etihad Stadium tonight both defending 100% records for the season so far.

The Serie A side’s season may be just one game old but they can claim to be unbeaten nevertheless. City, on the other hand, are four games into what has been an immaculate start to a new campaign that has the makings of being the most rewarding in the club’s history.

Gareth Barry and James Milner are both major doubts for The Citizens, while Nigel de Jong is definitely out (foot) and Mario Balotelli is suspended.

The visit of Napoli for this Champions League group stage game represents the dawning of a new era for City, but manager Roberto Mancini does not believe that his side will be fazed.

“I think this is normal for us. Now Manchester City are one of the best teams in England and Europe,” said the Italian.

“For us, it will be very important to do our job very well in this group. The first game is always a difficult game.”

Drawn in this season’s ‘Group of Death’ picking up maximum points at home will be key to City’s aspirations of qualifying for the knockout stages. At odds of 4/11 the bookmakers seem to think three points are an inevitability tonight, and despite the threat Napoli will certainly pose it’s difficult to argue otherwise given the way Mancini’s side have played so far this season.

The Naples side kicked off their season with a 3-1 win over Cesena at the weekend and have more than enough attacking quality to threaten the City defence. However, they looked vulnerable defending set pieces making Edin Dzeko the man for the job tonight.

Back the big Bosnian to score the first goal of the game at 9/2 and anytime at odds of 6/5 with William Hill.
