Man City V Newcastle: Goals, goals, goals at the Etihad

10 of Man City's 11 games this season have seen more than 2.5 goals

This Saturday offers a mouth-watering top of the table clash between first-placed Man City and third-placed Newcastle. Whilst Man City will have surprised a few by sweeping aside nearly all teams they have faced so far this season, it’s not really that much of a shock to see them at the top of the table given the money that they have invested in the squad. However, there will be hardly anyone that would have predicted Newcastle’s start to the season, especially when you take into consideration all of the turmoil surrounding the club in recent months. However, although Newcastle have started the season so well, they haven’t really played many big sides and this is really the first big test that Alan Pardew’s side face.

City will be without Owen Hargreaves and Samir Nasri for the visit of Newcastle but Sergio Aguero has declared himself fit after picking up a groin strain whilst on duty with Argentina. Newcastle are missing Gabriel Obertan, Alan Smith, Sylvain Marveaux and Michael Williamson but there is a chance that Cheick Tiote may return to the side after picking up a knee injury last month.

With both sides in such great form and given Newcastle’s unpredictability, the odds of 1/3 for a home win seem very short.

When we look back at the recent head to head history between the two sides one thing clearly stands out and that is the amount of goals produced in each game. The last four games have all produced more than 2.5 goals so that is where our selection will lay. Also the last four matches played in Manchester have also seen a goal tally of greater than 2.5.

When we look at the recent form of both sides this season it boosts the selection further as 10 of Man City’s 11 games this season have seen more than 2.5 goals and six of Newcastle’s 11 has also. The last three home games for City have all produced more than 2.5 goals and the same can be said about Newcastle’s last three away games.
