Man City v West Brom Betting Preview

Peter Odmwingie will once again be the main goal threat for the visitors after he notched his ninth of the season on Wednesday

Both sides suffered blows to their respective league challenges after midweek draws in very winnable fixtures and with the two teams struggling defensively this could make for an exciting clash at the City of Manchester Stadium.

The last time the sides met a Mario Balotelli double secured a deserved and much needed 2-0 win for an under pressure Roberto Mancini, following a run of three straight defeats.

Nigel De Jong and Micah Richards are both doubts for City after they collided midweek and both had to be taken off. Otherwise the home side have no fresh injury concerns.

Simon Cox, Gonzalo Jara and Graeme Dorrans are all doubts for the Baggies. Peter Odemwingie suffered an ankle injury against Wigan but hopes to be fit.

Do City have Title Mentality?

After City's midweek 2-2 draw with Birmingham Mancini slammed his players for their poor attitude and stated they must stop conceding goals if they are going to mount a title challenge.

Mancini's men are without a win in their last three games and have slipped eight points behind Manchester United, who also have a game in hand.

However, they have won their last four at the City of Manchester Stadium and have only lost twice here all season.

After an exciting 2-2 draw with Wigan in midweek Roberto Di Matteo praised his players' performance and their attacking threat by stating: 'It just doesn't seem to go in the goal at the moment.' However his concerns must surely lie at the other end of the pitch due to another abject defensive performance.

West Brom have only picked up a possible three points out of their last 18 on the road and have only one won twice away all season.

Despite this, four of the entire eight points they have gained away from the Hawthorns this season have been against Arsenal and Manchester United and Man City will have to be aware of a team who very rarely have a defensive mindset.

The bookmakers are quoting betting odds of 4/9 on the home win, 3/1 on the draw and 6/1 on an away win.

Troublsome Tevez

It is hard to imagine where City would be without their captain and leading goalscorer this season. Tevez notched his 15th league goal of the season on Wednesday night, three times as many as any of his team mates. It was another brilliant display from the Argentinean and with Balotelli injured and Edin Dzeko still settling they are going to require his goals to remain in the hunt for a Champions League places never mind the title.

Tevez is 3/1 to get the first goal in this game and 12/1 to grab a hat-trick. Dzeko is 10/3 to bag the first goal for city.

Peter Odmwingie will once again be the main goal threat for the visitors after he notched his ninth of the season on Wednesday, which, like Tevez, is three time as many as any of his team mates. He is 3/1 to score at anytime.

Man City tend to be quite miserly at home as they have only conceded 10 goals here all season but they have conceded 11 goals in their last six games suggesting they are having defensive issues.

West Brom are not all that better having conceded 10 in their last five matches and have now failed to keep a clean sheet in 22 matches.

So, this one could have goals and over 3.5 at betting odds of 6/4 looks like a decent prospect.

With Spurs and Chelsea beginning to creep up on City with games in hand they simply must start winning fixtures exactly like this one if they are going to be playing Champions League football next season.
