Man Utd v Basel Betting Tips

United -2 goals can be backed at odds of 11/10

Manchester United are looking to return to winning ways with a home victory over FC Basel in the Champions League this Tuesday.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s men surrendered their 100% record in the Premier League with a 1-1 draw against Stoke on Saturday. The absence of Wayne Rooney and the early withdrawal of Javier Hernandez left United stripped of their prized assets and lacking in firepower.

Unfortunately for them the duo are set to miss this midweek’s game, fortunately for them they should still have enough to see them take all three points against FC Basel.

The aforementioned injuries mean that Michael Owen, Danny Welbeck and Dimitar Berbatov will battle it out for the two striking spots. Nemanja Vidic, Chris Smalling, Jonny Evans, Rafael and Tom Cleverley are all also out.

Alexander Frei and Marco Streller provide Basel’s biggest threat. The Swiss side are unbeaten in their last five games following a poor start to their domestic campaign.

At odds of 1/6 in the Match Odds market a bet on the home side won’t appeal to many. There is, however, value to be had in the Asian Handicap market where United -2 goals can be backed at odds of 11/10 with Victor Chandler.

In Rooney and Hernandez’s absence the Anytime Goalscorer market provides plenty of intrigue. Team selection will, of course, be an important factor to consider but if he does start then the 6/5 offered by Ladbrokes on Owen finding the back of the net looks appealing. Nani has three goals already this season and the nature of his attacking play so far this season suggests that he is being encouraged to shoot almost on sight. At odds of 6/4 to score he also looks a good bet if named in the starting XI.
