Man Utd v Blackburn: Berbatov aiming for repeat performance

A sixth straight success would take the champions to the top of the table

Manchester United, who are now level on points with Manchester City, host Blackburn this Saturday at Old Trafford. Sir Alex Ferguson will be pressing his side for a big victory as they try to peg back their city rivals who are five goals better off.

Ferguson's squad is suffering with a huge number of injuries at the moment and the side's defence has really taken a battering. However, Chris Smalling, Rio Ferdinand and Phil Jones could be back to match fitness, which would be a huge boost for the side. Johnny Evans will definitely be sidelined after picking up a calf injury in the Wigan match. Other players to feature on the United injury list include Anderson, Nemanja Vidic, Tom Cleverley, Ashley Young, Michael Owen and Darren Fletcher.

Wayne Rooney is available for selection and after Dimitar Berbatov's hat-trick on Boxing Day we may see Javier Hernandez dropped to the bench.

Blackburn's David Hoilett and David Dunn will both hope to shake off minor hamstring problems to face United. Paul Robinson is also still a doubt and after Mark Bunn's heroic acts at the end of the Liverpool match he should continue in goal. Long-term absentees still include Vincenzo Grella, Gael Givet, Ryan Nelsen and Martin Olsson.

It looks therefore that youngsters Jason Lowe, Grant Hanley and Adam Henley will start in defence captained by Chris Samba.

The Boxing Day demolition of Wigan made it five out of five wins for the Reds in the Barclays Premier League in December, with only one goal conceded. A sixth straight success on the final day of the year would take the champions to the top of the table, temporarily at least. Berbatov will hope to start in this match and look to repeat the remarkable five goals he scored against Rovers last season, which resulted in a 7-1 annihilation.

Steve Kean's side had lost their last three matches 2-1 against the likes of West Brom, Bolton and Sunderland, before snatching a valuable 1-1 draw at Anfield on Boxing day. Blackburn have only managed to win two games so far this season and neither of those were away from home. Morten Gamst Pedersen and Yakubu look to be the only bright sparks so far this season, Pedersen being in fine form and Yakubu netting 10 goals out of 12 matches.

Blackburn battled well at Anfield last time but it's difficult to see anything other than another emphatic Manchester United win. The champions, who have won their last two games by an aggregrate of 10-0, are going to be full of confidence and determined to hit the top of the Premier League table.
