Mancini sees Chelsea as title contenders

The Citizens go into the game with a 10-point advantage

Roberto Mancini has recognised Chelsea’s title credentials ahead of their crunch match at Stamford Bridge this Monday evening.

The Citizens go into the game with a 10-point advantage over their opponents and the bookmakers rating their chances of regaining the Premier League title at odds of circa 14/1. But Mancini is cautious of the threat that The Blues posses, and refuses to rule them out of the hunt.

“I think they can win it,” said the Italian. “They have 10 points less than us but we play two times against them and there are 24 games [remaining].”

“Last year Chelsea had a big lead but in the end United won the title by seven or eight points plus.”

Chelsea go into tonight’s match as the betting favourites to pick up all three points and close the gap on the league leaders. Boylesports offer odds of 6/4 on a home win.

The Blues will go into Monday evening’s game without striker Nicolas Anelka after it was announced that the French striker will be joining Shanghai Shenhua. Didier Drogba is expected to maintain his place in the starting XI after he was singelled out for praise by the manager.

“His level of performances have been outstanding, helping the club and team-mates,” said the Portuguese.

Drogba is quoted at odds of 8/1 by Stan James to open the scoring against City, and can be backed at 9/4 to find the net at anytime in the game.
